Happy Birthday Lydia- a light in this dark world!
Today my daughter is 12.
That means that today is also the twelfth anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing. Imagine having given birth in the middle of the night, waking and turning on the tv (because what else can you do) and being jarred back into reality when the newsreport interrupts your regularly scheduled programming with news of a bombing at a federal building. Imagine being transfixed and sickened as they go on to report that a daycare has been involved. Imagine holding your hours old infant in your arms as images of little children are being carried away in rescue workers' arms. There was no escaping it. The news was everywhere and it was daylong too. I know how moms felt giving birth on 9/11. True the scope was different but for any new mother, any tragedy on that day brings forth the thought- what have I done?
Other terrible anniversaries mark this week in history... Waco, the Columbine shootings, and now Virginia Tech not to mention one of the deadliest weeks in Iraq. But I have brought a light into this world.
I know my daughter is a beautiful, strong soul with love and grace abounding. We need more light like her's in this world.
Happy Birthday!
